Oscar Rey received his PhD in Computational Chemistry in 2004 at the University Ramon Llull, in Barcelona. His studies mainly focused in photodynamic therapy, and he studied in detail the suitability of porphycenes as potential drug candidates. He has developed most of his scientific career at biotech companies based in Barcelona area, where he has been the computational arm of several drug discovery programs targeting different therapeutic areas such as antibacterials, metabolic syndrome, or over active bladder, among others. He recently moved to Pharmacelera, a company developing methods based in 3D molecular descriptors that combine hydrophobic, electrostatic, and steric interaction fields derived from semi-empirical Quantum-Mechanical computations.
